I am writing to bring to your attention a matter of grave concern regarding the misuse of the great game of cricket for personal political gain which is against the spirit of the sport and the rules of the International Cricket Council (ICC).

As a follower of cricket, I must point out a potential risk to the impartiality of the ICC, undermining its credibility as a world institution devoid of any political bias. Article 2.4(D) of the ICC’s Articles of Association, reproduced herein below, which explicitly prohibits government interference in the affairs of cricket boards by a member, stands breached.
Each member must at all times “manage its affairs autonomously and ensure that there is no government (or other public or quasi-public body) interference in its governance, regulation and/or administration of Cricket in its Cricket Playing Country (including in operational matters, in the selection and management of teams, and in the appointment of coaches or support personnel).

Mr. Mohsin Naqvi, Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), which is a member of ICC, is concurrently serving as a Federal Minister of Interior and Narcotics Control, raising serious concerns about the autonomy and independence of the Board’s decision making. His dual role as both that of a Federal Minister and the Chairman of PCB, is a clear conflict of interest that jeopardizes the impartiality of the national governing body.

Taking into consideration the aforementioned concerns and in adherence to the rules outlined in the ICC’s Articles of Association, I respectfully urge the ICC to take appropriate action. By enforcing this provision, ICC can reaffirm its commitment to upholding the integrity and independence of cricket’s governing bodies.

With the Champions Trophy upon us, I trust that the ICC will thoroughly investigate this matter and take necessary steps to address the blatant violation of its rules.
